LTC James Grandy, US Army, Ret.

James is a retired US Army Veteran, serving just over 30 years on active duty. James grew up on a farm near Brush, Colorado, raising cattle, and growing corn and alfalfa. He enlisted in the Army straight out of high school at the age of 17. He spent his first 7 years enlisted before being commissioned from Officer Candidate School. James spent 11 years serving in the Regular Army, and 19 years in the Special Operations Community, serving in a multitude of positions. During those 30 years, James passionately mentored, led, and professionally developed soldiers around the globe. He has deployed on multiple combat tours in Iraq and Kosovo.

James and his family came to the Hampton Roads area in 2012, stationed at Norfolk Naval Station and Langley AFB with an unaccompanied tour in Ukraine in between, before retiring in 2020. While no longer wearing the uniform, James' passion for helping others has not changed. He is currently a volunteer and member of the International Advisory Board for Montero Medical Mission, helping Veterans locally and humanitarian missions abroad. His full-time job is working as a Mortgage loan officer for a veteran-owned small business in Hampton Roads. He is also a certified Substitute teacher for Chesapeake Public Schools, and a life member of the VFW, and the Special Forces Association.

He is married to the former Dina A. Guevara from Garden City, Kansas, and has two children, Evan (14), and Lauren (12).
